Balanced Scorecard Forum 2009 – A Final Wrap Up!

SAVE THE DATE FOR 2010!
28 March - 1 April 2010

I’d like to start by saying an enormous thank-you to each and every one of you who’ve helped make the Balanced Scorecard Forum 2009 such a sensation. The entire IIR and Leaders Presents team is absolutely delighted. Everyone knows that we are living in uncertain times and yet the turnout this year has been staggering with more than 200 delegates. I think this demonstrates just how dynamic the Balanced Scorecard is and of course it shows the enormous pulling power of Dr’s Kaplan and Norton!

It’s wonderful to welcome back so many familiar faces from last year, but also to extend the success of this iconic formula to a new audience. The financial paradigm shift has clearly highlighted a number of new challenges and adapting strategies to the current climate has subsequently featured prominently at this year’s Forum.

I’m bowled over by the strength of positive feedback and amazed by how many of you are already asking for details of next year’s event. Rest assured we will demonstrate the usual IIR commitment to making the next chapter in our Balanced Scorecard an even greater success story.

The good news is that you won’t have to wait an entire year! On December 6 2009 we’ll be launching our inaugural Saudi Balanced Scorecard event, focusing on regional specific case studies, challenges and solutions. I’m sure you’ll agree that this is hugely exciting.

In the meantime, rather than us telling you what a fantastic event this has been, I’m delighted to let you do it for us.

Best regards,

Katie Stanley
Senior Conference Manager

It’s been very informative and extremely useful. In the past we used benchmarking but this is no longer sufficient. We are very keen to implement the Balanced Scorecard and are in the process of doing that this year. Our main objective is customer satisfaction and this tool will prove very valuable in achieving this.”

Brigadier Ghareeb Mohd Al Hosani
Director of Dept. of Borders & Airports

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the event. IIR is a distinguished training centre which is well organised with highly distinguished speakers. That is why I am here. It’s still early days but we need to introduce the Balanced Scorecard more in Saudi, particularly within the government sector. We’re thinking about implementing it at the medical centre and are looking for help with ideas on how to facilitate development. What I’ve heard today will be extremely useful.”

Yousef Al Gablan
King Abdulaziz Medical City

Very good. I read the book first and wanted to see how the Dr’s presented their thoughts and concepts. It’s our vision to implement the Balanced Scorecard and I’ll be taking away practical solutions to implement. It’s been extremely useful to see what they recommend and we’ll be using a down scaled down version of theirs to fit our structure.”

Atiq Mirza
Senior Advisor Corporate Performance Management, ZonesCorp

Extremely informative, incorporating all of the main Balanced Scorecard themes. I’m from a financial background but wanted practical examples of how to handle particular situations. I got that. They’ve really grabbed my attention and I will find what I’ve learnt extremely useful, particularly how to handle performance in a recession.”

Muhammed Salman
Senior Analyst, Corporate Strategy, Du

This is far better than any other Balanced Scorecard event I’ve ever attended and I’ve found it very useful. I don’t have too much experience in strategic planning but I started reading their book before I came and it got me hooked! I didn’t expect to be so enthusiastic to learn but I’m finding that I’ll be able to apply what I’m learning even though I work in the government rather than the private sector. Everything was explained so well, in a very attractive and simple way.”

Hand Al-Ghafli
Department of Finance, UAE

Kaplan and Norton are so famous – I wanted to get their autographs and learn from the highest level. I wanted business case studies that I’ll be able to apply immediately and found it very interesting and straight to the point. I’ve got some really great tips and some very interesting real case scenarios and examples of lessons learnt that I’ll be able to apply within my daily work. I can actually relate to those case studies. I also found the diagrams and structures very useful and informative because now I have a structure to follow when I’m executing the strategy. This has been highly insightful and of great benefit.”

Hattem Al Hameli
Finance Director, Emirates Identity Authority

Kaplan and Norton together have reinvented Corporate Strategy as we know it and so seeing them here together and hearing about their methodologies in an open forum discussion is just amazing. I’m very happy. IIR has done a great job – very organised, with great speakers and relevant case studies so no surprise there!

I’ve enjoyed it very much. It’s provided me with the tools so that I can actually implement the Balanced Scorecard practically by myself. That’s so much better than just having a straightforward lecture.”

Eng. Ahmed J. Sabbagh
Acting HR & IT Manager, ITFC

This is my first time at the conference and it’s been perfect but very intense! I’m the MD of Global energies and deal with utilities and power and so it’s been very relevant. We’ve been trying to implement the Balanced Scorecard for about a year now, on and off but to no avail. I never really understood it properly before, but now all has become clear and I’m confident of success!

Magdy Saleh
Managing Director, Global Energy

It’s been excellent and I’ve found it very useful. I’d only read about the Balanced Scorecard previously but now I know the requirements from an operational perspective and feel I will be bale to master the subject!

Dr. Abd Almoneim Ali Gussmelsee
Chief strategy & Business Development Officer, Tabuk Agricultural development Co.

Excellent. I’ve been working with Palladium on strategy execution so this came at exactly the right time. Very useful and informative with clear slides and first class presenters. This is an exceptional event, but you can tell that by the great turnout!
